Accessory Dwelling Unit Question

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The City of Faribault has a pending request to allow for an Accessory Dwelling Unit on a single family parcel. We are looking for information on any specific development standards that communities may have regarding these units. We are also looking for information regarding the type of approval process that you take these requests through, CUP, administrative review committee, Planner’s review, etc.

I appreciate any help anyone may be able to provide even if your City/county does not permit these units.

Please feel free to email me at gkruschke@ci.faribault.mn.us with any information.

Thanks again and have a great day.

Summer Internship Feedback

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

We’re nearing the end of summer and in many cases, this also means the conclusion of summer internships.  What have you learned from your summer internship?  How has this experience affected your career path, if at all?

Member Services-Updating your Resume-Your input is needed!!

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

The MN APA is exploring ways to better connect our members with job opportunities. Do you see any value in having the MN APA provide resume writing/building services? If so, would you associate a cost to having your resume critiqued?

Sincerely,

Stormwater “Credit”

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

The City of White Bear Lake has been granting a “credit” on impervious surface limitations for the use of pervious hard surfaces such as pervious pavers or pervious asphalt. The amount of credit is based on the design of the particular project, but is typically around 70%. (For example a 600 square foot pervious paver driveway would be counted as 180 square feet of impervious area.) I understand that homeowners in the City of Minneapolis get a discount on their stormwater fee if they have rain gardens or other BMP practices on site. Does your community have any similar programs/policies that reward the use of alternative stormwater practices? If you do, would you please forward that information to Sam Crosby at scrosby@whitebearlake.org?

Thank you so much! We sincerely appreciate your time in responding to this inquiry.

Outdoor Dog Training Facilities Question

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

The City of West St. Paul Planning Commission has requested that I look into whether or not other cities specifically allow outdoor dog training facilities. We have a request to locate a facility in our industrial district and the PC is considering recommending that the Council amend the zoning code to allow the use as a CUP. In doing so, they requested that I survey other communities. My initial search has come up empty, so hopefully someone out there has something to model. If your community has specific language allowing the dog training facilities as permitted or as a CUP, could you please forward that information to ben.boike@ci.west-saint-paul.mn.us.

I appreciate any information you can provide and would be more than happy to forward the results to anyone else who is interested!

Thanks,
