Carolyn Braun, President
Carolyn is currently the Planning Director for the City of Anoka.
Carolyn lives in Princeton, where she was born and raised.
Carolyn has a B.A. in Local and Urban Affairs from St. Cloud State University and a M.P. from the Humphrey Institute. Carolyn
became interested in planning when she served as chair of a city planning commission.
Areas of special interest are housing, the environment, and urban design. While Carolyn is on the MnAPA Board
she will concentrate on increasing involvement with citizen planners. When Carolyn is not at work she keeps busy writing and doing
genealogy research. She is also busy teaching a course at St. Cloud State University.
Brad Scheib, Vice President
Brad believes that MnAPA should be a recognized and respected
organization whose opinion is sought by key decision makers
(legislators) with respect to planning issues. This would require MnAPA membership to be more active in developing positions on key
issues, a task that would require consensus building among us and a task that Brad would play a strong role in orchestrating. As an
organization with nearly 800 well educated and professional planning minds, MnAPA can and will make a positive influence on Minnesota
communities.
Other key areas that are important to Brad in carrying out the Mission of MnAPA is for the organization to be
a "resource" for planning serving existing members of MnAPA, prospective members (including students and citizen planners), elected
and appointed officials, faculty and professionals in other disciplines. Brad believes MnAPA should be an educational resource,
a networking environment, a social (fun) environment and an avenue for mentorship where planners (or prospective planners) are
welcomed and encouraged about a career in planning.
Dan Jochum, Secretary
I am a Community Planner for Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) in Minneapolis. I have been at SEH since June 2001. I completed my
Graduate Degree in Urban Planning at Minnesota State University-Mankato in 2003 and my Undergraduate Degree in Local and Urban Affairs
from St. Cloud State in 2001. I currently reside in Eden Prairie.
I feel I have the leadership and organizational qualities needed to be a member of the MnAPA Executive Committee.
I have been attending MnAPA sponsored events since I joined APA in 2001 and would like to take on a more active role within MnAPA
as the chapter Secretary.

Lance Bernard, Treasurer
As the Minnesota APA Treasurer, I help provide a
well-organized and stable budget for the organization. A major role
from a budgetary and planning standpoint is our State Conference. The
conference is one of the organizations biggest initiatives and continues to
be a year round planning activity (thanks to our members & volunteers).
To help provide an educational and fun conference each year, I continue to
help with these activities.
In addition to the State Conference, I have begun
working towards the 2009 National Conference being held in Minneapolis.
As an organization we will need to continue to budget and plan for this
event.
About myself: I've recently joined the Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc. (HKGi)
team in 2006 after working in Anoka County as a transportation planner.
Besides working, I have been able to use my "conference planning skills"
with my fiancee Andrienne as we plan our September wedding (minus the budget
setting skills). However, it did scare her to learn I knew so much
about miscellaneous costs associated with events, i.e. microphones, drink
tickets, table cloths etc...
District Directors

Robin Caufman, AICP, Metro District Director
Robin is the Manager
for Public Involvement for the Metropolitan Council’s Central Corridor
Project Office where she is responsible for
engaging the public in the design and engineering of the Central Corridor
LRT line. Prior to her current position, she was a Planning
Analyst/Sector Representative for the Metropolitan Council's Community
Development Division where she worked with suburban Hennepin County
communities on comprehensive planning and regional infrastructure
issues. Robin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental
Studies from the University of Minnesota’s College of Natural
Resources and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the
University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute.
Robin has served as a MnAPA Metro District Director since 2006. Robin
has been a member of the MnAPA and National APA since 2001 and became an
AICP-certified planner in 2002. She also served on the MnAPA Awards
committee as member, co-chair or chair from 2002-2006 and on the MnAPA
Conference committee in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. She maintains close
ties to her alma mater by teaching PA5211 Urban Land Use Planning,
volunteering for the Humphrey Institute’s mentorship program and guest
lecturing for classes in Urban Studies.
As a Metro District Director, Robin's goals are to continue building on the
progress that the MnAPA has made over the past few years. Of special
importance is promoting greater attendance at the annual conference,
increasing student involvement and improving communications via the MnAPA’s
website.

Kate
Garwood, AICP, Metro District Director
As a
planner in this Metro Area for the past two-plus decades, I’ve worked in a
variety of agencies, including suburban cities, small towns, eventually
landing in the transportation planning field in transit, then MnDOT, and now
in Anoka County. Nothing has been more constant than “change” in our field,
and my career path has been a mirror of that change in the Metro Area. The
Transportation-Land-Use-Connection has proven to be a much bigger issue in
recent years.
One
thing I’ve always been proud of is the high quality, dedication, and
intelligence of the people in our field. Every planner I’ve met and worked
with has taught me something new, exposed me to new ideas and information,
and generally added to my education as a planner. Toward that end, my
passion has been the “professional development” end of our field. Serving
as the PDO (professional development officer) for several years, my goal has
been to help provide quality education opportunities for our membership and
to encourage professional development of Minnesota’s planners by helping
them attain their AICP certification.
Over
the last 18 months, the new Certification Maintenance program—the one
requiring continuing education by all certified planners—has been the focus
of my attention. While the PDO duties have been passed on to a very capable
gentleman (John Stark), I have continued to work on this part of the program
on behalf of the MnAPA membership. If elected, I would like to continue in
this area to be a voice on the Board supporting the continuing education
needs for Minnesota planners—certified, working on certification, or
otherwise. As our field continues to change, I feel the Chapter should be a
“vehicle” (remember, I’m a transportation planner!) for us all to attain the
professional development and skills we will need in the future.

Jennifer Zierke, AICP, Metro District Director
Jennifer is a
Project Planner for Landform in Minneapolis. She works with local
municipalities on special studies and with developers on large scale
commercial developments around the United States. Over the past ten years,
Jennifer has worked in public, private and non-profit planning positions.
Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Master of City
Planning from the University of Manitoba’s School of Architecture in Canada.
Jennifer has been a member of the MnAPA since 1998 and became an AICP
certified planner in 2001. She served as the co-chair of the state
conference program committee in 2006 and co-chaired the state conference in
2007. As a Metro District Director, Jennifer hopes to improve connections
between the Minnesota Chapter of the American Institute of Planner and the
Manitoba Professional Planners Institute. She also intends on strengthening
ties between planning students and professionals within Minnesota.

Anita Rasmussen,
AICP, Central District Director
Anita is currently the Planning and Community Development Director for the
City of Sartell. Anita had previously served as a Planner for
Dahlgren, Shardlow and Uban (Bonestroo), City Planner for the City of Ramsey
and GIS Coordinator for the City of Oakdale. Anita received a
B.A. degree in Community Studies and Political Science at St. Cloud State
University and an M.A. degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Mankato State
University. In addition to her duties in
Sartell, Anita serves on the Sartell Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors, and volunteers extensively for Junior Achievement at the
elementary school age level.
Anita currently resides in
Sartell with her husband and two daughters. When away from work, she
enjoys golfing, running and enjoying time with her family and friends.
Anita's areas of professional interest include land use, annexation, zoning
and economic development issues. Anita would like to concentrate on
increasing membership, increasing educational/training resources for
planners, as well as appointed and elected officials, and
providing more opportunities for interaction amongst MnAPA members.
Holly Butcher, AICP, Northeast Director
Holly is currently a Senior Planner for the Duluth Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council. Holly previously as a Planner for
the Northwester Indiana Regional Planning Commission. Holly Received a B.S. degree in Geography from the University of
Wisconsin-Eau Clair and a M.S. degree in Natural Resources Management and Land Use Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point. Areas of professional interest include land use and transportation planning. Holly enjoys spending time with her family
and doing a variety of outdoor activities. Holly hopes to strengthen the membership line to Northeast Minnesota and will work to
provide networking and educational opportunities.

Bruce Peterson, AICP, Southwest District Director
Bruce has served as Director of Planning and Development Services in Willmar
for over 21 years. Prior to that time he held a number of municipal, county,
and regional planning positions. Areas of specialization include growth
management, economic development, environmental planning, development design
and project management.
During his tenure with the City of Willmar, Bruce led the City through a
period of rapid growth with multiple, complex annexations. The focus of his
department continues to be working to meet the residential, economic and
social needs of a large region, while maintaining the attributes of a small
city. Another challenge met and addressed was the cultural diversification
of the community. Major development projects have included a new regional
airport, the redevelopment of the former airport as an industrial park, the
redevelopment of the regional treatment center as a technology campus, and
numerous large scale residential, commercial, and institutional projects.
As a
MNAPA Board Member, Bruce is a voice for greater Minnesota planners. He
served on the Board of the Minnesota Planning Association, an organization
representing citizen planners, whose functions have now been absorbed by
MNAPA. A special interest is educating rural staff and planning
commissioners in the procedural, legal, and technical aspects of planning
and land use regulation.
Robert Graham, Southern District Director
Graduate University of
Wisconsin, Madison, 1967. 40 years planning
experience: Chemung County, NY; St. Louis Park, MN; and Albert Lea, MN. Charter member of APA. APA Board 1981-83. Chair Minnesota Planning
Association two terms. Two current terms on APA
Board. Chair; Freeborn County
Family Services Collaborative. Certified Grants Manager,
Certified Housing Manager, Economic Development Finance Professional.
My commitment to APA is
to be sure there is continued follow through with citizen planner training.
I authored the original “So You’re A Planning Commissioner, Now What”. This
has evolved into the current MPA training manual.
I encourage planners to
stay active in commissioner training, as this results in better planning
decisions.
I will be happy to
continue to serve the south-eastern district on the APA Board.
Wayne T. Hurley, AICP – Northwest District Director
Wayne Hurley is the Planning Director for West Central Initiative (WCI), a regional
foundation that serves nine counties in west
central Minnesota. Following the dissolution of the Regional Development Commission in the region, WCI took on some of the planning
functions that the RDC used to perform.
Wayne began work as WCI's transportation planner in 1998. He is currently responsible for supervising all of WCI's
planning activities, including the transportation planning, community development and GIS programs.
Wayne graduated with Honors from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota with a Bachelors degree in Local
and Urban Affairs.
In addition to his duties at WCI, Wayne serves on the City of Fergus Falls Planning Commission, and has previously
served on the City of Fergus Falls Heritage Preservation Commission and various city and school district committees. Wayne lives in
Fergus Falls, Minnesota, with his wife and their two daughters.
As Northwest District Director, Wayne's primary interests are to promote planning in Northwest Minnesota, to make
the Chapter more accessible to MnAPA members in Greater Minnesota and to work towards increasing membership in the Northwest District.

Sam Woods, Student
Director
My name is Sam Woods; I am
a Graduate Student in the Urban Planning program at
Minnesota State University, Mankato. I am a member of the planning
committee for the 2008 MNAPA planners' conference. I am also an intern with
the Minnesota Valley Council of Governments. I have two bachelor's degrees
from St.
Cloud State University: one in Recreation and Sports Management
and the second in Community Development. I have interned with the City of
St. Cloud's Recreation Department, and I was the Community Economic
Development Intern for the City of Big Lake. I am married, and my hobbies
include watching and supporting the Minnesota sports franchises, spending
time with friends and family, traveling and visiting different places
whenever possible, and photographing intriguing design.
Representative Directors
Daniel Meyers, AICP, Past President
Dan is a Senior Transportation Planner for BRW, Inc. He currently lives
in Minneapolis, but was born and raised in Chicago,
Illinois. Transportation has been an interest of Dan's since he was young and lived near the CTA's rapid transit elevated tracks.
In fact, his B.S. is in Urban Studies from Elmhurst College and his M.S. is in Transportation Engineering and Urban Planning from
the University of Michigan. Not surprisingly, one of Dan's favorite books is Divided Highways, written by a compilation of authors.
