2008 Awards Program - The Gunnar Isberg Student Scholarship

Submission Deadline: July 11, 2008 4:30 P.M.

The Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association (MnAPA) is part of a national organization of planning professionals with more than 4,000 members. The planners who belong to MnAPA are committed to excellence in the planning profession. MnAPA supports its goal of fostering the development of students in the planning field by providing student scholarships each year.

The MnAPA is offering the opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to apply for up $1,000 in scholarship funds available for 2008. The minimum criteria are as follows:

• Student must be pursing an education in planning or planning related field (such as land use, housing, transportation, public administration, etc.) in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate).
• Student must be a State of Minnesota resident or attending a university or college within the State of Minnesota with a planning related program.
• Student is not required to be a member of MnAPA; however, higher consideration will be given to students that are members.

For consideration, please submit the following by July 11, 2008:

• Proof of enrollment (copy of tuition receipt or current registration card).
• Most recent transcript (copy or original accepted).
• Letter of recommendation from a professor or job supervisor.
• Current resume including education, work experience, organizations, school activities and professional skills.
• Cover letter stating anticipated graduation date and your professional goals. Be sure to include a statement about your career goals and why you want to become a planner.

Applications will be reviewed by the chapter reviewing the project nominations and awarded at the annual conference in Duluth, Minnesota. The scholarship is competitive and based on the applicant's specific planning goals, academic record, and planning related activities or job skills.
